Can do
Today I had Librarian. We got a couple of books, they were both Barbie books because we knew how much the younger students love Barbie.
We started reading and more and more students came to listen to the books.
After we finished a few students offered to help us carry all the gear back. We said "Yes".
We started walking back to the Library with the younger students. We put the books away and the went outside to enjoy the rest of our Lunchtime.
I think I have shown Trustworthy because I think Mrs Ward can always count on me to show up.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #5
Kapahaka
Can do
On Friday I had Kapahaka. We practice every week on Friday from 10.30 to around 11.30 at the latest.
Today we had no warm up, so we went straight into Hareuia. We practiced Hareuia for the whole session which I found was helpful because I needed to work on Hareuia, so I got a lot of practice.
We finished around 11.20. So the year 8 girls practiced long poi for the last ten minutes of morning tea. Before Morning tea Mrs Baker said to us that we can bring the long poi home to practice with.
Once the bell rang we went straight to class and got ready for the rest of the day.
I think I have shown Resilient because The long poi was very hard but I kept trying and I finally got the hang of it.

Kapahaka
Can do
Today I had Kapahaka. We have Kapahaka each week because we are practicing for the Cultural festival. We are doing 5 songs for our performance.
Today we sung He Honore for our warm up. Then we sung Hareuia as a group because normally we spit up and the come in at different times.
After, we practiced Tahuruhuru and the year 8 girls get the opportunity to do long poi. I can do all of the actions for long poi, there is over head, butterfly, cross over and circle (which is the easiest one).
We did that for the rest of Kapahaka.
The CARE value I showed was Respect because I showed Respect to Matua, Mr Brown and Mrs Baker.

Librarian
On Monday I had Librarian duty. I grabbed some books and I headed to the Junior area.
When I got to the Junior area, I went around and asked if anyone wanted me to read some books. A few students said "Yes" and a few people said "No".
Once I rounded few people, I started to read. I read 3 books and everyone seemed to enjoy them.
When I had finished, some younger students offered to help me carry the books back so everyone held a book each as there was only 3 people.
Once we arrived at the Library, I put the books back in the right place and went outside to enjoy the rest of my Lunchtime.

Kapahaka
Can do
Today I had Kapahaka. It is at 10.30 each week.
I walked over to the hall quickly and quietly and took my shoes off in the hall foyer and put them down neatly.
Once I was in the hall, I sat down in my spot and talked quietly to the person beside me.
The first song we sung was our school song for a quick warm up.
Next we sung hareriua, then the people who were in the non performance group left and went back to class.
After we practiced our school song to get that song ready for the Cultural Festival. The bit we practiced the most was when the boys come through the middle to get ready for the haka.
The leadership trait I think I showed was Resilient because some of the songs were quite hard but I kept going.

Then we sang the school song. We went through it a few times then Mr Brown told us to stop. Mrs Baker and Mr Brown ah came up with a new move. It was sliding across while doing jazz hands. We did this a few times and the it was time to go.
The CARE value I showed was Respect because I didn't talk while anyone else was talking.

Working with the juniors
What we did
Over the last 2 days the Year 8's have been going down to a junior class to work with them. I have been working with Room 14 we helped the with there action stations. The action stations were Water painting, Snakes and Ladders, Playing with Play dough, Practising writing your name, Playing with numbered bean bags, Playing with chalk and Playing with Hula hoops. Today we were lucky enough to have some Preschoolers come and visit we did action stations read a book and played on the playground. We did this at the Junior school at Oaklands Primary School.
Why
We did this because we wanted to work with the juniors while the Year 7's were away at Wainui Camp.
We wanted the juniors to get used to us so they didn't see us as scary monsters and and the Seniors and Junior benefited from this so we can get to know each other.
How I felt about this
I felt good about this because It was really fun to work with them and get to know them better.
Food Forest
Last week, the year 8's did gardening. We split into eight groups. Half of the groups did gardening and the other half went down to the juniors to help the with their learning.
I went down to the juniors first to help them with their learning.
Then I did gardening,
The first thing we did was, picking all the weeds out.
Here are some photos:

Community: Keeping my hands and feet to myself.
Active thinking: Putting my hands up when a question was asked.
Respect: Looking and listening to the person speaking.
Excellence: I sung with pride when we sung the National anthem.
When assembly was finished I excited the hall quietly and respectfully.
The CARE value I showed was Respect because I listened respectfully.

Swimming Sports
On Friday the Kauri team had Swimming Sports at Jelly Park. The Kakano team also went to Jelly park but they were outside and had time to play in the outdoor pool.
When we arrived the house captains were allowed to sit in a line of seats in front of the pool. I then got changed into my togs and headed back to where I was sitting. After I waited for a we while the width races started, and everyone was seated.
I then walked to help the width races and when I was walking Mr Ladbrook called me because One little girl was scared so I jumped in and gave her a piggy back so she could finish the race. After that we cheered for all the width races in till the were finished.
After the width races it was time for games run by the house captains and house points were up for grabs. The games were SPLASH and MADNESS, MADNESS was first and the house captains running that was Monique and Samara (Rimu's house captains) Jack M and Alicia (Kowhai house captains) and the other house captains helped them throw in the tennis balls, Frisbees and kick boards.
After MADNESS we played SPLASH and Xanthe and I were speaking. The aim of the game lie on your tummies and make the biggest Splash you can.
After that we joined the Kakano team for lunch.
After lunch it was time for the length races and I happened to come 2nd in Freestyle and Backstroke.
Then we went back to school.
