Excellence Evidence - Kapahaka #1

Kapahaka

Can do

On Friday I had Kapahaka.  We Practiced for 45 minutes.

For our warm up we sung He Honore and Pa mai.  We hadn't sung Pa mai for ages so we didn't really remember the actions it.  We sung this with the non performance group.

After the Non Performance group left so the Performance group could practice their routine.  The Performance group started with Hareruia then we moved onto Tahuruhuru.

We spent a bit of time on Tahuruhuru because the was Rakau, Long Rakau, Poi and Long Poi so we got some practice on that.

After Kapahaka was finished the Year 8 boy's and Year 8 girl's practice Long Rakau and Long Poi because the wanted to get the sequence right.

The CARE value I showed was Respect because I was being respectful to others.

I got involved by singing at my very best each time.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #5

Kapahaka

Can do

On Friday I had Kapahaka.  We practice every week on Friday from 10.30 to around 11.30 at the latest.

Today we had no warm up, so we went straight into Hareuia.   We practiced Hareuia for the whole session which I found was helpful because I needed to work on Hareuia, so I got a lot of practice.

We finished around 11.20.  So the year 8 girls practiced long poi for the last ten minutes of morning tea.  Before Morning tea Mrs Baker said to us that we can bring the long poi home to practice with.
Once the bell rang we went straight to class and got ready for the rest of the day.

I think I have shown Resilient because The long poi was very hard but I kept trying and I finally got the hang of it.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #4

Kapahaka

Can do

Today I had Kapahaka.  We have Kapahaka each week because we are practicing for the Cultural festival.  We are doing 5 songs for our performance.

Today we sung He Honore for our warm up.  Then we sung Hareuia as a group because normally we spit up and the come in at different times.

After, we practiced Tahuruhuru and the year 8 girls get the opportunity to do long poi.  I can do all of the actions for long poi, there is over head, butterfly, cross over and circle (which is the easiest one).

We did that for the rest of Kapahaka.

The CARE value I showed was Respect because I showed Respect to Matua, Mr Brown and Mrs Baker.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #3

KapaHaka

Can do

On Friday I had KapaHaka as I arrived the Cultural club was still going so I took my shoes off and waited quietly in the Hall foyer.  After Cultural club was finished I walked in the hall quietly and I stood in my line waiting for Kapahaka to start.

The first thing we did was a Warm up and the song we sung was He Honore, then Taitapu.  The we mainly practiced Hareuia and our formation.

After we finished practicing Hareuia we got the opportunity to practice the year 7/8 girls did long poi.  The year 5/6 girls did short poi and the boys did the haka.

The CARE value I showed was Respect because I showed Respect to the people in  Cultural club by being quiet when there session was still going.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #2

Kapahaka

Can do

Today I had Kapahaka.  It is at 10.30 each week.

I walked over to the hall quickly and quietly and took my shoes off in the hall foyer and put them down neatly.

Once I was in the hall, I sat down in my spot and talked quietly to the person beside me.

The first song we sung was our school song for a quick warm up.

Next we sung hareriua, then the people who were in the non performance group left and went back to class.

After we practiced our school song to get that song ready for the Cultural Festival.  The bit we practiced the most was when the boys come through the middle to get ready for the haka.

The leadership trait I think I showed was Resilient because some of the songs were quite hard but I kept going.

Merit Evidence - Kapahaka #1

KapaHaka

Can do

On Friday I had Kapa Haka. It was at 10.30.

I walked over to the hall quickly and respectfully and took my shoes off in the hall foyer.

Once I was inside I sat down in my spot and talked quietly to the people beside me.

The first song we sang was He honore. We did this as a warm up.

Next we sang hareruia. We decided this will be our opening song for the Cultural festival but only a few people will be on stage at the start singing then the girls join in then the boys.

Then we sang the school song. We went through it a few times then Mr Brown told us to stop. Mrs Baker and Mr Brown ah came up with a new move. It was sliding across while doing jazz hands. We did this a few times and the it was time to go.

The CARE value I showed was Respect because I didn't talk while anyone else was talking.

DISTINCTION CAN DO

Kapahaka

At Kapahaka we had a little time to practice our poi without any adults helping us we basically had free time for a little while but we were practicing poi.  Then Nate (who tells us the commands) said a commands and we followed it.

We were in our places, ready to go and then we started to sing a song,
The song was: Our school song.  We practiced that song for a bit because Mr Brown and Matua and also Mrs Baker wanted us to pick up the volume because we had our actions polished and good but our volume was quiet so they wanted our volume to rise.  So we had a battle firstly we did years 4 and 5's vs years 6,7 and 8 girls and also the year 7/8 boys.  Then for our second battle we did years 4,5 and 6's vs the year 7/8 girls and boys.  For the second battle the year 4,5 and 6's started off strong then the year 7/8 came back in the middle but it was the same at the finish so we don't really know who won so we just got told to do that in the song when we are doing it as a whole group.  Then we tried it as a whole group and we were very loud and that was good.  Then we finished off by doing Tahuruhuru.

We did Tahuruhuru and that involves the poi and I thought we did well but the teachers said that the year 7's have got it but some of the year 6's don't and some do but the year 4 and 5's so we need to practice.  After we finished Matua brought some lollipops to share with the group and after we got lollipops I went straight to peer mediation.
