I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

Reading

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning Boring because…I had already learnt this, and it wasn't interesting.

In this activity Task 1, I had to explain what part of the sentence was the adverbial clause.

Science - Waterways Info Report

Science

The Highlighted parts show that I have used Punctuation and Sentence Structure.

Below is my New Zealand Waterways Information Report.

New Zealand Waterways

The Water Cycle is a process that water goes through between land, ocean and the atmosphere.  The Water is recycled throughout the process. The steps in the Water Cycle are: Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and Runoff/Groundwater.

Evaporation

Evaporation is when the sun heats the water and then turns the water into gas.  Gas in the air is called humidity, and in some hot places, have a high amount of humidity.  When it is hot outside; the evaporation is greater.  After this stage in the water cycle is finished it is Condensation/ Precipitation which takes you furthermore in the Water Cycle.

Condensation/Precipitation

The word Condensation is water vapour gas condenses back into liquid, Water and Ice.  Precipitation is the stage where Rain falls from the clouds.  There can be many different types of Precipitation For Example [Rain, Snow, Sleet and Hail.]  The next stage is when the water hits the ground that stage is Runoff/Groundwater.

Runoff/Groundwater

Runoff/Groundwater is when the water runs off into the Ocean it either Runs off Underground or on land.  When the Runoff reaches Rivers, Lakes and Oceans, it keeps the water cycle going.  Furthermore, the water underground moves due to gravity, downward and sideways.  Runoff is important, because it flows over the land, some of it soaks into the ground, thus recharging groundwater.

Conclusion

Overall, you can see that the water cycle has a few steps that are important and would be interesting to learn about.  Remember the water cycle has 5 main steps:  Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and Runoff/Groundwater.  If we didnt have the water cycle, we wouldn’t have clean water.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns.

Reading

In this unit I have been learning about:
  • The parts of speech.
  • The types of nouns.
  • The types of sentences.

Something new I learnt was how to put these nouns into sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging is trying to remember all of the different types of names for nouns.

Excellence Evidence - Can Do #1

Can Do

Librarian

On Wednesday Monique, Sam, Samara and I with a few other people had a Librarian meeting because we are starting a new Library system to make it easier for other students.  We have a new website for the Library so people can Reserve and can give feedback about books without needing to go in the Library.

So we are learning about the new system so we can teach other classes on Wednesday next week at Read and Feed time.  After Mrs Ward explained what we needed to do we got to have a little play around with it.  Everyone got Partnered up and got assigned a class.  I and with Alex and I am going to Room 6.

After the meeting was finished I went outside and played withe my friend before the bell rung and it was time to go inside.

Excellence Evidence - Must Do #2

Wellington Fundraiser

Must Do

On Monday Monique, Sam, Alicia and I went to the Halswell shops and Westfield mall.  We went there because we were asking different shops if they would like to donate some prizes towards our Year 8 Fundraiser Quiz night as we are fundraising towards our Year 8 Wellington trip.

Halswell Shops

We we to the Halswell shops first,  Monique and I were partners.   We went to the Pharmacy first, hey said they would ask their boss so their is still a Chance.  Sam and Alicia went to Tiffany's they got a gift card so they were very grateful for it.  After that most of they shops didn't have their boss at work so they needed to talk it through with their boss.

Westfield Mall

Once we arrived at Westfield we went to first shop but they needed to talk it through with their boss.  Basically every shop after that needed to talk it through with their boss.  Then Monique and I went to Noel Leeming and they were willing to donate some prizes.  They gave us Two cook books and Two glass Jars.

Then we got back at school around 2.55 - 3.00.
